Literacy and Reading
Goal: An excellent Catholic school provides programs and services aligned with the mission to enrich the academic program and support the development of student and family life.
Students have scheduled time to checkout and to read books. Students can also read and listen to books online at school and at home. Parents are encouraged to read to their children and to read with their children.
Kindergarten through Grade 2 students have access to SuperKids online reading and literacy program. Lessons both in the classroom and in the media center use SuperKids Resources. ICS SuperKids are encouraged to access the program at home also. If you have questions about how to login from home, please contact your child's teacher.
Kindergarten through Grade 8 students also have access to online books on MyON.com. Students can read and listen to books at the appropriate reading level for each child. This helps to develop their reading comprehension as well as their vocabulary development. Many of the books are in Spanish also which furthers their Spanish language development. Please encourage your child to read on a regular basis.
Middle School students use the Accelerated Reader books (AR BookFinder) and take quizzes on books they have read using Accelerated Reader. Accelerated Reader's Renaissance Learning is only available during school hours.
