Stop Summer Slide

Prevent the "Summer Slide" that happens to students during their time away from school by ensuring that your student(s) continue to participate in academic activities.

  • All students should be encouraged to read every day. The best way to ensure this happens is to allow students to pick what they want to read. Set goals and offer rewards for meeting them (number of books, minutes, AR points, etc.).
  • Offer students opportunities to create - artwork, sculptures, stories, poems, songs, plays, newspapers, food, etc. Consider engaging students in a summer project that documents a trip or details family events over the next two months.
  • Participate in summer camps, teams, activities and hobbies. Keep students active both mentally and physically!
  • Practice - math facts, handwriting, reading, grammar, piano, sports.
  • Search out educational apps for your and/or your child(ren)'s electronic device(s). Combine learning with fun!
  • Continue to go to Mass and pray as a family. The summer should be a more relaxed pace, not a time away from our faith. Make an effort to continue students' Catholic education while away from ICS.

Prayer for the Internet

Almighty and eternal God, who created us in Thy image and bade us to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful, especially in the divine person of Thy Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, that, through the intercession of Saint Isidore, Bishop and Doctor, during our journeys through the internet we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to Thee and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
